When I was 7, I used to ride my bike to this very spot to watch airplanes approach and land on runway 28L. Yesterday, I rode back here only to recall the fear I overcame riding here as a lonesome little black boy. 25 years later, I’m still watching airplanes land. And like the little boy who first overcame fears to see airplanes here, I watched what would happen from here on out. Daring to look different, daring to think different, but succeeding because either way failure and success hurts. Tears fell as I approached this spot again. I succeeded in getting back here without looking back.
