My City

Despite all the stories I write about, I’ve never written about my past experiences with the police. And I’ve had plenty. According to society and my past experiences, race is often respected in that conversation. Ironically, my two worst experiences with the police were each with black male officers, partnered with young white male officers. I have nothing against those dudes, but here is the dude they forgot to shoot.

THE WRITER’S DRIVER: “GOING AT IT ALONE”

Read why Budd runs on Portland’s beautiful waterfront park. If you see me running, next time wave. I am nice:)

DECEMBER 31, 2018 – I RAN UP COUNSIL CREST TO PUT LAST YEAR’S WORRY TO REST; AN OLD AMUSEMENT PARK, PORTLAND, OREGON WAS HOME TO THE “DREAMLAND OF THE NORTHWEST.” FREEZING IN MY NIKE GEAR, YET WARM AND LIGHTLY DRESSED. NOT THE BEST TRAIL RUNNING SHOES, BUT THEY GOT ME UP TO SEE AMAZING #PDX VIEWS!

THIS WAS A PIVOTAL PIECE I PUBLISHED IN THE WAKE OF A CAREER CHANGE BUT ALSO A TIME OF SELF-AFFIRMATION. THE IDEA COULD’VE BEEN WRITTEN IN A BOOK, BUT I PUT THE THEME OF THIS PIECE IN CLUSTERS AND ALLOWED THE WORD-FLOW TO CARRY THE WRITER.

Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Budd writes to encourage readers to explore the depths of their inner ocean, an unexplored self, because it's fun once you get through the emotional part... “The world around us is our vehicle, what you'll read is how I digest it.” -Budd
